PICTURES!

We are finally back from the hospital and that has given me an opportunity to upload the pictures. I have posted practically all of the pictures that were taken on my online Picasa web album, which you can get to from this weblink - http://picasaweb.google.com/willgarvin/BabyGarvinPhotos?authkey=g0agDO0zA40.

I have also posted four of the pictures that appear in the album below. I'll put more pictues up in the following days.

Above is a picture of a nurse holding Madeleine when she was first born.

Above is the first Garvin family photo.

Here is a close up of Madeleine while sleeping.

Brief update

Everything is still going well. We have had lots of visitors today and received calls from lots of people. Both sets of grandparents, sams who live nearby and mine who drove up from north carolina, have been a great help. The current plan is to stay at the hospital until saturday and then go home. Unfortunately for those waiting for pictures you will probably have to wait until this weekend for photos and video.

more info on madeleine

Here are some more details on Madeleine. She was born today, May 29th, at 12:59 am. She weighed in at 6 lbs 15 ounces and is 20 3/4 inches long. She's already learned how to use her lungs for a full cry. At her delivery, the nurses and doctors even commented that she was loud. That's our little overachiever. Madeleine had her first bath this morning and she did not appreciate it. We'll post some pictures of her soon.

Memorial Day - more pictures

Here are some more pictures of Rolling Thunder.

This last picture is a picture of the graves at Arlington National Cemetery. They place a flag on all of the graves in the cemetery for Memorial Day Weekend.

Memorial Day - Rolling Thunder pictures

No baby news, but this past weekend was Memorial Day. In DC, that means that Rolling Thunder comes to town. Rolling Thunder is an organization that works for the return of US military that are either prisoners of war or missing in action. They are also known for coming to DC in a big parade of motorcycles every year on Memorial Day. I thought I would take the opportunity of their arrival to take some more pictures with my new camera. Let me know if you like the pictures.

Richmond Visit

I know everyone has been patiently waiting for more posts. Sorry for the delay, but Sam and I have been super busy lately. In the future, I am going to try to plan to post once a week and have a post up by Tuesday at the latest. So now you know when to expect another posting.

In the meantime, here are some older pictures I took when Sam and I visited Ben and Karen in Richmond in March.

Below Sam and Karen have a belly-off.

When we visited Richmond we also visited the Hollywood Cemetery, which is where a lot of famous southern politicians (including James Madison, John Tyler, and Jefferson Davis), and old confederate military are buried. Below was my attempt at taking an artistic photo of one of the burials.

Backyard project - after

And here is our backyard after the completion of phase one. Phase two involves planting flowers and a couple of trees. My dad is going to help with that when he comes back up after the baby is born.

Below my Dad and I celebrate all our hard work.

My mom celebrates having watched all our hard work.

Backyard project - before

A couple of weeks ago we worked on making our backyard more beautiful. Luckily, we had some help from my dad and mom.

Below are some of the before pictures and my dad working hard on improving the backyard

Checking Things Off the List

Will and I have been very busy trying to get everything done before the baby comes. Two weekends ago, we had some painting done on the outside of the house and we had Baby Garvin's bedroom and bathroom painted. We also ordered a crib and dresser for the nursery. Last weekend, Will's parents came to visit and to help us with landscaping. We also had our glider delivered. It's awesome! This weekend, Will and I bought a new car and went on a tour of the hospital. Yes, I threw buying a car in with the list of everything else. After we bought the car yesterday, we had to go grab lunch and then had to go off to the hospital. No time to focus on the car as we have a list of things that still need to be done.

For those who are interested, we bought a Volvo XC90 (you can see an older version of the car below) and we are very excited that we'll have it to carry little Madeleine in. We don't have the car, yet, but expect to pick it up next weekend. The dealer is getting it from another dealer somewhere and then has to install some options on the car. Yesterday, we also bought a whole bunch of toiletries so that we could begin to pack our hospital bag. I keep putting it off, but Will is putting his foot down and wants us to pack it in the next day or so. My apologies, but I don't have any pictures to post right now. I'll try to post some tomorrow, including pictures of some of our various projects.
